PHASE TWO (
Ethan's Library and our Dental/Acute Care Clinic. The impacts of a global pandemic and worldwide inflation have slowed down our progress and increased our projected costs, but we are confident that both the library and clinic will be completed by the end of 2024.
Ethan's Library in memory of our friend, brother, volunteer, and son, Ethan Williams. Ethan traveled to work with the students of Imana Kids and was in constant contact many of our sponsor students. So much so, that he was studying kinyarwanda and dreamed of documenting the stories of our kids. As a lover of books, stories and dreams, Ethan always had a book in his pocket and was eager to chat with fellow readers about their favorite stories.
In October of 2020, Ethan was killed while in Brooklyn, New York, filming a skateboard documentary and fulfilling a lifelong dream to skate and film in NYC. Ethan's friends and family, both in the United States and in Rwanda, have joined together to work towards a library that will honor Ethan's love of people, stories and dreams.
Hope Village is unique in the fact that we are diligent about our spaces for learning to also include healing. The learning, sensory and emotional needs of children who have experienced trauma are unlike those kids who have been born into a stable, nurturing and save environment.
